They even had the students over for a barbecue lunch. Merci! M. Joël and M. Steve's 7/8s working hardFor Math and Art class, the students of the grade 7/8 French program used their knowledge of transformations (translations, reflections, and rotations) to create multiple tessellations. Pour le cours de mathématiques et d'art, les élèves du programme de français de 7e et 8e année ont utilisé leurs connaissances des transformations (translations, réflexions et rotations) pour créer de multiples pavages. The grade 7/8 students in the French program had the opportunity to build a structure that would protect an egg from falling and breaking from a height of three meters in Science class. Students then had the opportunity to test their structure from a seven meter fall, a swing from M. Fouasse's baseball bat and a foot stomp. Congratulations to Mason and Aiden! Their egg, Hatch, was the last egg standing...until their structure was crushed by M. Steve's truck. Les élèves de 7e et 8e année du programme de français ont eu l'occasion de construire une structure qui empêcherait un œuf de tomber et de se casser d'une hauteur de trois mètres en classe de sciences. Les élèves ont ensuite eu l'occasion de tester leur structure à partir d'une chute de sept mètres, d'un coup de batte de baseball de M. Fouasse et d'un coup de pied. Félicitations à Mason et Aiden ! Leur œuf Hatch était le dernier œuf à survivre... jusqu'à ce que leur structure soit écrasée par le camion de M. Steve. Ésms day We are looking to introduce triathlon to more kids. The race is an encouraging and supportive environment for kids to try something new. If kids can swim, bike and run, then they can complete a triathlon! The event is broken up into age groups and the swim/bike/run distances are as follows: 7 & under: 50m/1.5k/500m (12-18 mins) 8-9 years: 100m/5k/1k (24-42 mins) 10-11 years: 200m/5k/2k (28-56 mins) 12-14 years: 300m/10k/3k (42-70 mins) Families can check out the link here to register and find more info: http://stmalotri.ca/register/ We are also looking for volunteers for the he Kids of Steel race on June 26th. People can sign up here to help out the kids! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080c49abab2ea0f58-sunday Construction progress4/5E and 6E Enjoy a field trip to winnipeg4/5E enjoyed their field trip with 6E to the Science Gallery and The Forks in Winnipeg this week. We got to assist in chemical and physical changes experiments - including sending a rocket across the room and using a blow torch to change the size of metal! Afterwards, we were able to explore the Science Gallery by using pulleys, creating dams to change the course of water, and even racing cars. When we were done being scientists, we headed to The Forks for a picnic lunch and an exploration of all the historical sites along the way. It was a great day! Mme. Construction UpdateConstruction is well under way with the demolition of parts of the building and excavation for the foundation begun. The Grade 8 Farewell is coming upThe Grade 8 farewell ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 28, at 1:00 pm in the St Malo Arena. Families are invited to attend. We are also organizing a grade 8 farewell dance for the grades 7 & 8 students on the evening of Tuesday, June 28, from 6 – 9 pm at the arena. There will be a canteen with drinks, chocolate bars and chips (1$ each). Tickets are free, and students are allowed to invite one grade 7/8 student from another school if they wish. Tickets must be collected before the dance from Mme Rachael or Mr. Fouasse and brought to the dance with the information on the back completed for each student. Mme. Doing social studies work in a fort and visiting Epic for a tour of their facilities A trip to the Farm and Food Discovery Centre with Mme Charm and M. ShaneGrades 3/4 had a blast exploring at the Bruce Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre! We learnt all about eggs and where they come from, why they’re different colours and sizes and so much more!! We got to see some pigs and some cows. Such a great place to visit!
Les élèves de 3e et 4e année ont eu beaucoup de plaisir à explorer au : « Bruce Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre »! Nous avons appris tout ce qu'il faut savoir sur les œufs, d'où ils viennent, pourquoi ils ont des couleurs et des tailles différentes et bien d'autres choses encore ! Nous avons pu voir des cochons et des vaches. C'est un endroit formidable à visiter ! Shane's 3/4 ClassMineral extraction challenge Students took on the role of miner to extract minerals(chocolate chips) from a rock (bear paw)using only the extraction tools provided and not their hands. The experience connects to our study of rocks and minerals.
