some of 1/2E's favourite activitiesDuring the month of November we have been talking about seasonal changes. Two of the activities we did were creating clothing for each season and creating pictures of our favourite activities for each season. We figured out that in the spring and summer we mostly wear t-shirts and long sleeves in the fall and winter. Some of our favourite activities were jumping in leaves, going to the beach, growing flowers and celebrating the winter holidays, especially Christmas. Cuisine chez MaternelleMme Jojo's P'tits voyageurs had fun creating their very own restaurant! Thank-you to Brooke Lambert's grandma, Elaine, for her generous donation of cinnamon buns to the school's Breakfast Program. They were delicious and enjoyed by both students and staff members! Winter Cold Days and Indoor RecessWinter is definitely upon us and here to stay. With the amount of time students spend outdoors up to 1 1/2 hours per day, it is important that students are appropriately dressed for the cold and the snow. Only during times of extreme cold will recess be held indoors. We strongly recommend early years students have a second pair of mittens or gloves and a second pair of socks, in case their first pair is lost or becomes wet during play time. For middle years students, we strongly recommend a good pair of winter boots as opposed to runners or slip on shoes, a jacket, toque, and either ski pants or additional layers of pants. Halloween ArtStudents across the grade levels had fun making Dragon Eyes and Eggs, Geometric Bats, Spiderwebs, Eyeballs and Sugar Skulls! Flashlight artStudents in Grade 5/6 learned about Contrast, Emphasis and Texture last month. They created their own night time pictures based on the wordless picture book Flashlight by Lizi Boyd. Lil' Voyageurs put on a Puppet showThis week students from the Lil's Voyageurs program, along with Mme Jojo, worked hard to put together a puppet show. They each selected a character and gave them a super power. They also made sure the story had a beginning, middle and end. What a great show! Mme Ally's class Improving their leadership skillsIn 7/8E we have been working on being leaders in the classroom and our school. We have invited younger classes to join us for some of our physical education classes. We also paired up with the 3/4 E class for Remembrance Day and helped them read and create some art pieces to celebrate Canadian history. We will continue to work with younger classes as the year progresses through buddy reading and other multi-grade activities Having fun in 1/2FSpending our Friday afternoon creating our own towns, playing with play-doh and doing puzzles! 3/4F buddy up with maternelleWe went to do some buddy reading with our friends from maternelle! The students did really well reading and conversing in French with them. We are building some great friendships! No Parking zoneWe would like to remind families that there is a 'No Parking' zone directly in front of the school on St. Malo street. This space is reserved for loading and unloading students from the bus.
Fraction Action with M. SteveStudents in grade 7/8 Français class have been showing their knowledge of fractions and equivalent fractions by playing Fraction Action in groups of two or three in M. Steve's Math class. Les élèves de la classe de français de 7e/8e année ont montré leur connaissance des fractions et des fractions équivalentes en jouant à Fraction Action en groupes de deux ou trois dans la classe de mathématiques de M. Steve. 3/4E remembering those who fought for our freedomThis week Mme. Rikki's grade 3/4 students remember those who fought for our freedom. People wear red poppies to show they are thinking about people who fought for our freedom in war. A poppy is worn on the left side of your shirt, close to your heart. A poppy is a symbol of remembrance. 5/6E write about their heroesThis week in 5/6E we worked hard to plan, write and publish writing about someone that we consider to be a hero. We started by listing all the qualities of a hero and discovered that we all have many people in our lives that have many of the same qualities. We used a graphic organizer to collect our thoughts before writing out rough drafts. After that, we edited our work and fixed our mistakes. Finally, we typed out our writing on our laptops and printed our final copies. Our major takeaway was that heroes are just "ordinary people who do extraordinary things". We are really proud of our work! This week we learned about Remembrance Day. We learned about peace and chose a time when we are safe and happy. The students made a cross with poppies and wrote down what peace means to them. We had lots of fun buddy reading with Mme Bonnie's class! All of The early years students had fun making a train at recess! There is still time to book your Parent Teacher Meeting being held on November 9 and 10. Halloween Celebrations in Mme Christine's classMadame Christine's class had such a fun week. We were all dressed up for Halloween and we painted our pumpkins. We also had Abby Dixon, Mme Christine’s daughter, join us for a day at school to “Bring your kid to work”. Abby had lots of fun reading, playing games and helping out students with Math. The students had so much fun. We have been working hard at writing our first Halloween stories. We have been brainstorming ideas. We needed to come up with a setting, characters for our story, a problem and a solution to our problem. another busy week in kindergartenHalloween on a Monday has kept us on our toes! We enjoyed, games, crafts, snacks, math and literacy centres with a spooky Halloween theme. We are currently working on sounds in words, identifying beginning and end sounds. We've also been working on syllables, clapping the beats in words. |
