Seeley's Grade 7 and 8s had a busy couple of weeks!Students built raised garden beds with Epic SMILE of St. Malo Inc., a non profit organization that is committed to advocate and promote inclusion in the community. Students also learnt how to measure the area/circumference of circles and the area and perimeter of squares and rectangles in math. Last week they played softball at Lowe Farm School where our boys finished 2nd and the girls placed 1st in the division. Robots with Mme BonnieNous développons notre design thinking en créant des parcours d’obstacles pour nos robots. ABC countdown!F is for Fruit Salad. K/M and 1/2E brought in fruit and enjoyed a big bowl of fruit salad. 3/4F Explore different soilsIn 3-4F, we have been studying different soil and its uses. We took our curiosity outside and looked at the different soil around the school yard. We compared the dirt from the planters, from the sandbox and around the fence. We looked at what was found within and what could grow in it. Up next we will be planting our own flowers to see what they need to grow! Solids, liquids and gases in 1/2FIn Science we've been learning about solids, liquids and gases. To finish off this unit we learned about buoyancy. We created our own boats using recycled materials. After we tested them out to see if they were able to hold a given mass/weight. We’ve also been enjoying a new game in our class. We have repurposed the game Headbanz as a way to practice our sight words and sounds! 2D and 3d shapes with mme allyWe have been working with circles, triangles and other 2D and 3D shapes in our classroom. As an activity, students were asked to make a cubee character. This is a 2D shape that needs to be cut and transformed into a 3D character. As you can see, many favourite characters occurred, and students independently collaborated to create a theme (go teenage mutant ninja turtles!). Finally, students were asked to write a brief description of why they chose this character. Fun ways to incorporate core subjects into an enjoyable time! Mme. Rikki's Grade 3&4 class are exploring Living in Manitoba and Manitoba History in Social Studies class. Under Construction in Mme Katie's roomKinetic ArtMme Rikki and Mme Katrina’s class incorporated Science and study of magnets with Art. They learned about Kinetic Art and that it is a type of art that depends on movement to create an effect. They each designed a skater and painted a whimsical background. Using a paperclip and a magnet, they were able to make their person skate on the pond! Very cool! Weaving in 7/8Candy Shoes/MarblesMme Ally’s class each chose a shoe to learn how to draw. Next they picked their favourite candy/chocolate to use as inspiration for their shoe colour scheme and design. They also observed and painted marbles. They used chalk pastel to demonstrate their knowledge of light to create a realistic reflection of their marbles. citrus up closeMme Rikki's class put their observation skills to great work as they were learning about value and shape. Each student chose a citrus fruit to draw up close. Then they only used one colour and white to show different values of that colour to represent their fruit. Then they painted the background with a complimentary colour to make it "pop"! food trucks and donuts galore! All 3 Grade 5/6 classes learned about graphic design. They created a logo and made a food truck to match their product. They also made 3-D donuts from newspaper, toilet paper, paint and a shaving cream/glue icing. They are all very unique and should be proud of their hard work.
