Exploring Limericks and More with Mme. Rikki's Grade 3/4 ClassMme. Rikki's Grade 3/4 class wrapped up a Poetry Unit this week. They have been busy writing 2 worder, acrostic, 5 senses and concrete poems. Students also explored Limericks. Limericks have 5 lines and an AABBA rhyming pattern. Limericks tell a story that often ends with a surprise ending or a plot twist. Boxes of Chocolates in 5/6FStudents in Mme Danielle and Mme Bonnie’s class designed their own chocolates using a variety of oil pastel techniques. Some students even created boxes! They look amazing! Black History/Women’s History MonthAll classes in grades 5-8 learned about a variety of Black and female artists during February and March. Mme Janelle, Mme Danielle and Mme Bonnie’s classes looked at the artwork of Alma Thomas and painted in her unique style. The 5-8s also looked at the artwork of Lorna Simpson and her collaboration with Rihanna. They took a magazine photo and created a mixed media piece inspired by this collaboration. Super Mario LandscapesMme Christine and Mme Kristyn’s 1/2 classes designed a Super Mario inspired landscape that included shapes and patterns. Exploring Chord Progressions in music classStudents have been playing chord progressions in small groups. They are working at playing at a consistent tempo and soloing using a pentatonic scale. Young Women in Trades Conference Mr. Thomas, St-Malo Warriors Captain, Brings the Cup to the Classroom.Kindergarten's little garden projectWhat's happening next weekSpring is here!A total solar eclipse is set to occur on April 8, 2024, between approximately noon and 3 p.m. Central Standard Time, spanning from Southern Ontario to Newfoundland and Labrador, with the rest of Canada, is experiencing a partial eclipse. Manitoba will experience an approximate 50 percent occlusion eclipse. This is an awe-inspiring event that will draw people's gaze; however, there is a risk of permanent vision damage if proper precautions are not taken. Even a brief look at the partially eclipsed sun can result in permanent damage. As such, we will keep the students indoors during the afternoon of April 8th to support their safety. gr 5/6 Virtual reality headsetsThis week the grade 5/6 students got the opportunity to try out our RRVSD divisional virtual reality headsets. They all had a great time exploring these devices and playing VR games. The students collaborated, and used problem solving and leadership skills to help out their classmates. Furthermore, our class had a visit from Mr. Kevin Stevenson, our divisional Indigenous inclusion teacher. He brought giant maps for the students to explore and learn from. What's happening next weekSpring break is March 23- March 31. We hope everyone enjoys their time off and we look forward to seeing everyone April 1.
