Hoping that this new year each day is filled with contentment, opportunities, peace, and abundance. WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR!During these first two weeks of return to school after the holiday break (January 4th to January 15th), we have moved into the provincially mandated remote learning period for grades 7 & 8, and optional remote learning for students in Kindergarten to grade 6. Our teachers, as always, will do their best to ensure a positive experience for all students. Remote learning can be challenging for some students and families; we understand and we are here to help. This learning approach also requires a great deal of individual and familial commitment. We believe the students will be most successful with an ongoing collaboration between home and school during this remote learning time. Prior to the break, your child’s teacher provided you with additional information about the planned remote learning period. We encourage students to maintain a regular home schedule while engaging in remote learning. Students will be required to “remote in” to their classes where appropriate and as determined by the teacher(s) in order to receive the lesson(s) in the classroom. Guidelines for instruction (eg: schedule) have been or will be shared with you by your child’s teacher. In addition to online classes, students will be expected to engage in independent activities based on the classroom goals. Assignments and assessment will be examined to reflect the remote learning situation. We value the relationships we have developed with our students and their families. We recognize the current conditions have placed a strain on many aspects of people’s everyday lives, especially school. We hope that together we help the students flourish as we know they would in normal circumstances. GOOGLE 101 FOR PARENTS & STUDENTSNeeding some help with all the Google Apps being used in remote learning? Dennis Wiebe from our divisional technology department has put together a how to video for parents and students who are new to Google. This may be particularly helpful for students on remote learning and for parents trying to support their child. Please check out the link for the Google 101 video. SPREADING CHRISTMAS JOYThe seniors at the Chalet Malouin smiled as they opened their handcrafted cards and read the Merry Christmas wishes written by grade 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 students. Both seniors and students had their hearts warmed and feelings of joy during a difficult pandemic Christmas season. Keeping the St Malo community connected and caring for each other through challenging times is so important to us all. We look forward to working together with the community again throughout the school year. WINTER COLD DAYS & INDOOR RECESS We have reached that time of the year where indoor recesses are needed in the event of cold weather conditions. When temperatures of -28 degrees, with or without windchill, are reached, students will spend their recess/break indoor. This includes during morning arrivals between 8:15 and 8:45 and Physical Education classes. Safety guidelines will remain in place during indoor recess. This includes students remaining at their desks or in their space, no walking around classrooms or hallways, keeping masks on. Students will be provided with quiet & relaxing activities to do. ÉSMS RECEIVES A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESSThank-you to our local community for their generous donations of treats to help celebrate the Christmas season for all K to 8 students. The treats were received with much gratitude and thanks from the students. A special thank you to Agnes & JP Gosselin, Anna & Gilles Maynard, Paulette & Victor Curé, Marie-Lynne & Gerald Catellier, and Lynne & Marc Goulet for these goodies. We would also like to thank parents and the local community for the kindness, words of encouragement, and thoughtfulness shared with staff during the month of December.
