REMOTE LEARNING EXTENSION UNTIL JUNE 30In light of the recent announcement by the Province for RRVSD to continue with remote learning, we have made some decisions regarding what June will look like for our Grades K to 8 students. June 11 Will be the last day to learn new material in formal at home and in-school remote classes. June 14-29: Assessment and Recovery. Online meetings, classes, and attendance will continue to take place during this time. Students will participate in review work, complete outstanding assignments, and/or participate in recovery work. Beginning June 14, 2021, your child may be invited to school during scheduled times for in-person support, assessments, and transition planning. Current COVID guidelines will be maintained for school visits (maintaining cohorts, 2-meter distancing, waring masks, handwashing, and limiting gatherings between students). June 25: Deadline for returning or picking up equipment and supplies. Items needing to be returned include: textbooks, library books, borrowed tech (laptops, tablets, MiFi devices, chargers, etc.). Please "buzz" into the school if you are returning any tech to the school. There will be a bin outside the front doors of the school for outstanding textbooks and library books. If you are unable to drop things off at the school between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm (Monday - Friday), please let us know for alternatives arrangements to be made. June 29 : Last day of in-school and home remote learning classes for all students. We are inviting all students on remote learning to continue to join us online every morning for the Voyageurs news at 8:55 am. This is a great way to see friends and stay connected with the school community. Please use this link to join: meet.google.com/yaw-jhui-ypb. We understand the challenges remote learning may present for families and we are ever grateful for your ongoing support. Please reach out to your child's teacher or to myself if you have any questions or concerns. PIXELATED ARTWORKThe Grade 1/2s created Sun Mosaics in Art. They used a variety of shapes and sizes of cosmetic sponges to create their artwork. They learned about warm (The Sun) and cool (The background) colours. The students used tracers to draw, cut out and assemble their Sun onto their background. FAIRY TALES IN ARTJust before remote learning, the students in 3/4E had just finished writing Fairy Tales so in Art they continued exploring fantasy drawings of Castles and Dragons. The castles were drawn using a variety of rectangular shape templates. The students learned colouring/shading techniques that created a realistic, 3D effect. Students who created the dragons followed a how to draw video and painted their dragons using watercolour pencils and water. WE STILL HAVE SOME STUDENTS IN SCHOOLAlthough the majority of our student body is working from home, students of our community's Critical Service Workers are attending. ÉSMS support staff are doing an amazing job assisting our students while our teachers are hosting Google Meets. We appreciate seeing the students and want to thank and acknowledge the dedication of our staff during this time. When the temperature reached a whopping 39 degrees, our students spent some time cooling off! ABSTRACT ART WITH GRADES 5/6Just before remote learning started the students in 5/6D were learning about Canadian contemporary artist Sandra Silberzweig. She has a rare disorder known as Synesthesia. It is a neurological condition of involuntary sensory overload where she experiences and produces artwork on all sensory levels; sound, sight, touch, smell and taste. The students used liquid glue to create their abstract face outline and blended chalk pastels. They focused on analogous colours which are three colours next to each other on the colour wheel. Their finishing touches were to add texture with a contrasting colour. TRIPLE J'S LUNCH CANCELLEDRemote learning is now extended to the end of the year so we will need to cancel our Triple J's lunch fundraiser. We have some options for refunding you, 1.
