Welcome back cookem daisy! The Red River Valley School Division is honoured that Knowledge Holder Glenna Henderson - AKA “Cookem Daisey” - will be returning to work in RRVSD for the 2023-2024 school year. Last year she visited several of our schools to meet with staff and students, sharing her knowledge, stories, and cooking! Cookem Daisey is a proud member of Sagkeeng FN (Anishinaabe/Ojibway) and Nehiyaw Iskwew (Cree woman) from Peepeekisis First Nations, adopted by her Uncle and Metis Aunt and raised in Treaty 1 Territory. Glenna understands that the work of reconciliation in the education system is imperative to building strength and confidence in our children and communities. We are proud to work alongside her towards these goals. Cookem Daisey shares her knowledge through stories; cooking traditional foods and fusion dishes; talking about traditional family ties; stories of triumph and failure as an Indigenous child, woman, and community member; introductions to cultural practices and morals; games, and tea times for sharing and exploring our connections as a diverse community. We’ve had a great start to the school year in Kindergarten! We have been busy meeting new friends, learning class and school routines, and simply having fun! We are letter detectives! So much fun searching for the letter « S » this week. Comments are closed.
