No School New VP Position AnnouncementDear families, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Bellemare to the 0.5 Vice-Principal position at ÉSMS for the 2022-2023 school year. Steve was a former student of École St Malo School who began his teaching career here in 1996. He has taught for 25 years now, in 3 school boards across 2 provinces, experiencing different programming from early years to high school. Teaching has always been a passion of Steve's and he's very much looking forward to being part of our administration team at ÉSMS, bringing his experiences to his new position, and working with the school and the community. Our Maternelle to Grade 8 students from the Français program were fortunate to take part in a presentation by the Cercle Molière. The Compagnie Djarama presented "Petit Bout de Bois". We were excited for the opportunity to be together in the gym for the first time in a long time. A great big thank you to the Comité culturel de Saint-Malo as they funded this activity for our students. Collaborative work in Mme Sara's 4/5EIn 4/5E, we have been enjoying a lot more collaborative work in our class! We are back in table groups and loving getting to work together across all of the subjects. We have started a new leadership initiative where if a student finishes earlier or if what we are working on is a strength of their’s, they can now circulate and help others! This has been very exciting in ELA, where students have become Research Assistants for others and in Math where they can help teach others with the new concepts we are learning. Maternelle students are adding new and interesting activities to their routine. Field trips are back! Our grade 5 and 6 students have been able to visit the Manitoba Museum this week in Winnipeg. Here, we were able to learn about our province's history by exploring the museum's galleries and participating in a workshop about the Fur Trade. Exploring is fun!
To celebrate Earth Day, we did a fun art/science project! It was really nice to be able to incorporate different subjects into this one little project. The students needed to draw the continents on a coffee filter, then color them green. Then they needed to color all the oceans blue and spray water on them to create a tie-dye effect. The students later learned that the coffee filter is a translucent object which means that some sunlight can pass through it. So when we have sunshine outside, our beautiful Earths shine even brighter! Comments are closed.
