In the event that your child is not well and showing COVID related symptoms, please refer to the following chart to determine your course of action. The list of COVID related symptoms is also listed below. Please note that if a student becomes ill with COVID related symptoms at school, the student will be isolated in a supervised area and families will be contacted to come pick up their child at school. If siblings may also be required to be picked up (if the circumstances are within the RED category below). IN THE EVENT OF A CONFIRMED COVID CASEThe school may receive a confirmed COVID case notification from Public Health or from families themselves. At that time, contact tracing is completed and families for students who were identified as close contacts are directly contacted via phone by the school. This will be followed up with a close contact notification letter to the family (sent by the school on behalf of Public Health). A school wide notification will then be sent (again by the school). Close contact students will be required to be picked up from school immediately. At that time, in following with the South East Health Region Guidelines, siblings of these close contacts must also be picked up at school. Identified close contacts are required to isolate at home until the date indicated on their most recent close contact letter. Siblings of the close contact must isolate until the close contact has a negative COVID test, qualifies for an exemption, or is directed otherwise by Public Health. At all times, we follow the directions of Public Health (ie: criteria for close contact, duration of isolation required, return to school date). If you have questions or concerns about the health of your child in regards to being identified as a close contact, or questions about a vaccinated child, siblings as secondary contacts, please communicate with Public Health via Health Links 1-888-315-9257 or 204-788-8200 New Lunch PLanLunch and snack time procedures have been modified in order to maintain the safety of all students. During this time, students will be seated at a minimum of 2 meters apart (6'). Where this was not possible in a classroom due to the number of students & limited space, secondary overflow lunch rooms/spaces are available for students. In attempts to minimize the amount of time students spend unmasked in inside. October 29 zombie walk and paradeCome join us on October 29th for the first ever Costume Parade and Zombie Walk. It will be weather-dependent, but if the rain or snow stays at bay we still plan to head out! We are using a route similar to Terry Fox but making a stop at the Chalet for a window parade before heading back to school. See the map attached below. Families and spectators are asked to remain in their cars and/or remain in their yards in order to help us maintain COVID guidelines. We ask families/spectators to refrain from handing out candy to the students, while appreciated, it is difficult for us to manage in keeping with current health guidelines. In lieu, honk & cheer on the students! A few reminders about costumes:
Water Bottles for StudentsWater fountains are available to students for water bottle refills only. We rare asking that every students has their own personalized water bottle that can remain at the school. This is particularly important during physical education classes where water is needed to keep students hydrated and where the water fountain is only accessible for water bottles. It should be labelled with both their name and grade. If you have extra gently used water bottles at home that can be donated to the school, we could put those to great use for our students. Simply drop them off at the office. DONATION REQUEST - GENTLY USED WINTER CLOTHESWith winter knipping at our heels, we are reaching out to our school community to help ensure all of our students are warm and safe during our upcoming long winter months. If you have any gently used outdoor clothing that you can donate to the school, it would be greatly appreciated. We are looking for all sizes of winter clothing articles that will assist K-8 students. You can send your items with your child OR you can drop them off at the front office of the school. We thank you in advance for your support in keeping our students safe during our long winter months. DRESSING FOR THE WEATHERWith the amount of time students spend outdoors on an average day, up to 1 1/2 hours per day, it is important that students are appropriately dressed for the weather. Only during times of rain or extreme cold will recess be held indoors. GRADE 1/2 LEARN ABOUT SHADOWSCette semaine nous avons appris comment les ombres sont formées. We've also learned that although it may appear that the sun is changing positions, it is actually stationary. Les élèves s’en viennent très bons! ROOTS OF EMPATHY PROGRAMWelcome back to Mme Kaelyn who will be joining us from her maternity leave virtually with baby Huxon for our Roots of Empathy program! We will get to watch baby Huxon grow and reach so many milestones. Through his relationship with his mom, we will learn to read emotions and body language and develop empathy for those around us. 5/6 learning all about dolphinsAll about dolphins in 5/6A. Students started their first writing workshop using a variety of writing strategies to get their creative energy flowing. Our three starting strategies are : draw it out, act it out, write it out. Mr. Kyle's GRade 6 Class having fun through techGrade 6E has been recently introduced to using Blooket to add to our learning activities. Think of it as a mix between Prodigy and Kahoot! Our classroom favourite is Cryptohack. If you're interested in setting up a class competition Mr. Kyle would be happy to set it up! A trip to st. malo provincial parkToday, students in Mme. Rachael and Mr. Seeley's 7/8 classes went to St. Malo Provincial Park for an ecosystem scavenger hunt. Students had the opportuniy to locate biotic (living components) and nonbiotic (nonliving components). Biotic components include plants, animals, and decomposers.
