Students start their day at 8:40 am and will be marked late by their teacher if they do not arrive to class by 8:55 am . Please have any students arriving late check in with the office before heading to class. Hot lunches for the Breakfast ProgramWe are very happy to announce that all of this year's hot lunches fundraiser will be going towards the breakfast program. We will also have a variety of different lunches. We will be having pizza days, subway days and pita pit days. We are really looking forward to offering these warm lunches to our students. There is still time to purchase pizza from St. Pierre Bakery for the upcoming pizza day. To do so please visit https://rrvsd.schoolcashonline.com/ Eye See Eye Learn Present research confirms the importance of vision and eye health on students’ learning. According to statistics provided by the Canadian Association of Optometrists, four out of every ten school-aged children have a vision problem that may negatively affect learning. Children who cannot see the board clearly, focus on a picture, or follow words in a book may not be able to reach their full potential. Manitoba Health covers the cost of children’s comprehensive eye examinations, therefore all families can access this free service. If you don’t currently have a family optometrist, you can find one by going to the MAO website at http://optometrists.mb.ca/find-an-optometrist.cfm and selecting Find an Optometrist, or call the Manitoba Association of Optometrists @ 204-943-9811. Welcome Back Cookem Daisey! The Red River Valley School Division is honoured that Knowledge Holder Glenna Henderson - AKA “Cookem Daisey” - will be returning to work in RRVSD for the 2023-2024 school year. Last year she visited several of our schools to meet with staff and students, sharing her knowledge, stories, and cooking! Cookem Daisey is a proud member of Sagkeeng FN (Anishinaabe/Ojibway) and Nehiyaw Iskwew (Cree woman) from Peepeekisis First Nations, adopted by her Uncle and Metis Aunt and raised in Treaty 1 Territory. Glenna understands that the work of reconciliation in the education system is imperative to building strength and confidence in our children and communities. We are proud to work alongside her towards these goals. Cookem Daisey shares her knowledge through stories; cooking traditional foods and fusion dishes; talking about traditional family ties; stories of triumph and failure as an Indigenous child, woman, and community member; introductions to cultural practices and morals; games, and tea times for sharing and exploring our connections as a diverse community. This week Mme. Danaka's class explored light in scienceStudents investigated different sources of light and how the absence of light impacts how we see objects. Students participated in an activity where they felt different objects in dark bags and tried to guess what the objects are without the help of light. They were amazed to see how important light is in our daily lives! Les 7/8 jouent un jeu de “Poses” en classe de français pour travailler la communication orale et se divertir bien sûr! Our grade 6/7 class had a guest speaker joins us. During a trip to our local Rat River we learned more about rivers and the wildlife connected to them.Comments are closed.
