A SUCCESSFUL TERRY FOX RUNThank you to all students and families for your support this year for Terry Fox Run! PUTTING THE SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS INTO PRACTICEWhat have we learned about PBIS? (Positive Behavior Intervention System) 100% of students surveyed can share the 3 basic school wide expectations: Be Safe, Be respectful and Do your personal best! We understand the importance of having common expectations across the school as well as classroom expectations for the safety and success of all students. Here are some great examples in our classrooms and demonstration by the students. Way to go Voyageurs!! STUDENTS MENTORING STUDENTS WITH ALPHABET GAMES IN GRADE 1/2This week the grade 2’s spent some time teaching the grade 1’s some fun alphabet games! ON CHANTE EN MATERNELLE- ENJOYING A DINOSAUR SONG
Grade 3/4 is so super excited to get into non-fiction texts this year!THE STORY OF MY IN NAME IN GRADE 5/6BIn English class, we read the picture book The Name Jar by Yansook Choi. A story of a young girl who moves to the USA from Korea. No one can pronounce her name. She feels left out and wishes she could just have an American name. Students in Unhei’s class write down name suggestions for her and place them in a jar. Will Unhei keep her name or change it? Students surveyed their parents/guardians and asked three questions about their name. What does my name mean? Who chose my name? Do you have any special nicknames? We wrote two draft copies as a first sample of their writing for Strong Beginnings. We then focused on drawing a “self portrait” and coloured our bubble names. FIND WHO I AM THROUGH MATH OPERATIONSIn math class, the 6th grade students worked hard on this little project. We practiced our basic math operations addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. The students created math fact problems based on the questions asked. Now it’s time for fun for other classmates to try ans guess who the secret person is. But first, they must solve the math equation to flip the sticky note. Working on their reading habits in grade 7/8 CIn Grade 7/8C, we have been building the foundations of our strong reading habits. We’ve discussed our rights as readers (for example, we have the right to have time to read, and to read what we choose), why we read (to become stronger readers, and also for enjoyment and to experience new perspectives), and had daily book talks to help students know what they would like to read throughout the year. We have also talked about things that make reading the most enjoyable, or magic, and also, things that make reading hard, or horrible. All of this work is designed to help students to discover the joy of books, and to become life-long readers. Student will need to use the buzzer to be let in. If students are arriving on their own after 8:45, they should make their way to the main entrance and buzz to be let in.
